Montana - Sep. 30 - Oct. 16, 2005
Bill arrived in Montana on Friday, September 30th and met his good friend Richard Jordan. The drive from Buhl, Idaho was uneventful, which is fortunate since Bill did not have his navigator and co-pilot Susan with him. She flew to Sacramento with our friend Claire Fisher and her exploits may be the subject of a later journal.
On Saturday Richard and Bill drove to pick up Richard's son Wayne at the airport. That evening we all went out to fish and convinced a few trout to take our offerings.
Ok, the rest of the story is pretty boring to people not interested in fishing. So rather than tell you each day's exploits I will describe a typical day. Bill gets up at 6:30 AM, has a little breakfast and goes fishing with Richard and/or Wayne. They all break for lunch about noon. At roughly 3 PM they head back out to the river to fish until 6 PM. Bill comes back to the trailer, calls Susan to tell her how great a fisherman he is, makes dinner and goes to bed. Bill continued this routine until he left on Monday, October 17th. I told you it was boring... unless, of course, like Bill, you were catching the fish!
The fishing was good. Richard and Wayne know where to go and how to fish this river. It makes someone like Bill look like a good fisherman when he really is not.
The weather was very nice most of the time. Although it did get cold (22 degrees) on some mornings. Often the days warmed up to 60-70 degrees. Trees along the river sported their yellow fall coats. Nothing like looking up after catching a large, fiesty brown trout and see snow on the mountains and great fall foilage. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Richard and Wayne are great fishing partners and took a number of the photos featured in the picture journal for this trip. Bill really appreciated their willingness to let him join them in their annual ritual. Maybe someday we can do it again.
Now it is back to Sacramento for Bill to rejoin Susan. While there we will visit with friends and take care of business. After this visit to Sacramento, it is likely we will not return for another two years as we explore the other areas of the U.S.A.
