Chanute, KS - Jun. 7 - 8, 2006

On June 7, we hauled our clean, shiny rig over to Chanute, Kansas to tour the Hitchhiker factory.  We pulled into the Santa Fe Lakes Park on the south side of town and just down the street from the factory.  Not surprisingly, nearly every rig in the park was a Hitchhiker.  The park has water and electric hook-up, and a dump-station, and is free for the first 48 hours.  We can do free!

There is a golf course and a softball/baseball complex within the park, and a series of small lakes with picnic facilities.  We enjoyed two evenings of small town entertainment watching fast and slow pitch softball games with teams ranging from Pee Wee to the beer league.  It brought back a lot of youthful memories of warm summer evenings hanging with friends and playful flirting.  One big difference, today every kid over the age of 10 had a cell phone.

The factory tour was very interesting - and the temptation to buy was barely resistible.  Clearly, the folks at Hitchhiker take a lot of pride in their product.
