Madison, WI
Our camping spot at Lake Farm County Park. Small park with easy access to the bike trail.
Lake Mendota is one of the two lakes that border downtown Madison.
Hiking trails are little more than wide strips mowed through tall prairie grass.
There was a nice wetland area near our campground.
The Wisconsin Capitol is in the distance. We had to park a little ways out due to the crowds.
The Capitol was impressive both inside and out.
Great day and great views!
Unfortunately, most of Wisconsin was attending the Capitol City Art Fair.
Major streets radiate from the capitol outward. The art fair ringed the capitol building.
Fun cow sculptures ringed the capitol. This one was named "Wisconsin Winter".
Clocks abound on "Pasture Bedtime".
This cow was named "The Tank". It appears the cows are feeding at the water tank.
The inside of the capitol was impressive and beautiful.
A camera barely does it justice.
The badger is the state animal for the "Badger State". No wonder it seems to be everywhere.
On a short hike around Lake Mendota we had a view back towards the capitol.
Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
The glass pyramid was filled with exotic plants, flowers, and
free-flying birds.
It was lush, green and humid in the pyramid.
The next seven pictures are just some of the beautiful flowers we saw.
Begonia
Orchid Pansy
Tuberous Begonia
Cannas
Wonderful rock gardens abound.
The bushes enjoying a picnic lunch. I wonder if the little one is Jeb or Dubbya.
This is the only Thai pavilion in the continental U.S.
It is also the only one outside of Thailand that is surrounded by a tropical-styled garden.
It was a gift from the Thai government to the Univ. of Wisconsin in Madison.
The ceiling of the pavilion was beautiful too.
Water lilies and their reflection provided by Mother Nature.
