Tucson, AZ
This was our home for 6 weeks while at Far Horizons Tucson Village.
During our stay we enjoyed the Winter Festival in Tucson.
Kind of glad this guy had a hood on. Those talons look like they could do some damage.
Barn owls sleep during the day and party at night - thus this dude is snoozing.
The Tucson skies are just one reason we were so captivated by the area.
The storms left a lot of snow on the mountains. Hey, I thought it was supposed to be warm here!
We revisited Mission San Xavier del Bac. Obviously some work was being done on the Mission.
This mission is one of the more colorful ones we have seen in our travels.
It also has a very impressive alter.
Our friend Claire joined us on our visit to the mission.
During this trip we drove down to Tumacácori NHP built in 1691. This is a nice framed view of it.
One of the restored structures at Tumacácori. Notice the snow-capped mtns. in the background.
On our trip to Mt. Kitt Observatory Susan got this picture out of the window of the car.
The Observatory has a educational and warm visitor's center.
Susan and Claire pose with one of the observation domes in the background.
As the sun went down it cast a rosy glow over the domes.
Inside the domes the telescopes are pretty impressive. This one is remotely controlled from Japan.
Another pretty view of a dome in the receding light of the day.
Our guide led us to an vista point where we could watch the colors of the sunset change.
We took a few hikes during our time in Tucson.
This desert hare seem much more interested in food than in us.
The skies are clear, but the temps were cool.
As you will see we like pictures of desert plantlife.
The mountains in the Tucson area make for irresistible picture taking opportunities.
Another view along one of our hikes.
We hiked to the Seven Falls in the Santa Catalina Mtns.
Bill pauses midway on our return from the Seven Falls hike.
Another picture of a Saguaro cactus.
A picture into the sun just for fun.
Tired of the cactus/mountain pics yet? Gotta luv 'em.
At the end of one of our hikes Susan relaxes near a desert pool.
Another one of our favorite pics on this trip.
