Sutherlin, OR
While in Sutherlin we stayed at the Umpqua Golf & RV resort. All we can say is WOW!
We loved it here. This view of the golf course was only a few steps from our door.
We walked the nearby roads for some exercise. This log pond had some great reflections.
Also along the roads was this rustic farmhouse nestled among the trees and fields.
Even the weeds were pretty at the RV Park.
We took delivery of an inflatable kayak upon arriving. It is great fun and easy to set up.
We paddled around some local ponds.
These are nests for the endangered Purple Wren. At a distance we thought they were white birds in trees.
The local remote control plane enthusiasts were having a competition while we paddled around.
Here are some of the boys with their big toys. We only had to duck a few times as they strafed us on the lake.
We took a day to hike the North Umpqua Trail.
Off we go through the woods...Poison Oak - there ain't no Poison Oak!
The trail follows and crosses the North Umpqua River.
One day we took a drive to the coast. At Elkton we saw a few elk with hitchhikers on their back.
For some reason they keep the boy elk separated from the girl elk.
The Umpqua River Lighthouse was built in 1891 at a cost of $50,000. Now it warns boats 19 mi. out at sea.
We stopped in Florence for lunch...a bit of a tourist Mecca - but fun.
Found a nice little spot to view the Siuslaw River emptying into the sea.
We biked the 16-mile Row River Trail on one nice day.
The trail climbed to pretty Dorena Lake.
There are a number of covered bridges in the area too.
The Swinging Bridge was used by children going to school. Ironically no swinging is allowed.
This is the "historic" town of Oakland only a short distance from Sutherlin.
We took the kayak on another day. Susan's takes a picture over her head and backwards.
This is Cooper Creek Reservoir and the water was great. The wind came up just as we left.
One of the many clear cut areas that mar the hills in Oregon. A necessary evil?
We haven't gone geocaching in a while and one search took us to Henry Winery.
They have a wonderful little garden adjacent to the winery.
The cache was located in this box.
We found the cache so quickly we had time for a few flower pictures.
Nice!
What a treat!
