Westport, WA
We stayed at American Sunset RV Resort in Westport. "Resort" is very charitable.
Westport is a fishing port and tourist destination.
Some boats in the harbor in the early evening.
This 2 1/2 mile trail runs from Westport to Grays Harbor Lighthouse.
Down on the beach we found the best collection ever of undamaged sand dollars.
We could see a bit of the shoreline from an elevated tower near Westport.
Stately Grays Harbor Lighthouse was dedicated in 1898.
We took the lighthouse tour guided by an enthusiastic docent.
This Fresnel lens was used until 1992 when it was replaced with a smaller lens and 35 watt bulb.
This is the view from the lighthouse. In earlier years the shore came much farther inland.
After leaving Westport we traveled up the west side of the Olympic peninsula.
The shoreline is rugged and remote and very wet for most of the year.
