East Lyme, CT - Sept. 14 - 20, 2009

On September 14th we traveled from Narragansett, Rhode Island to Aces High RV Park in East Lyme, Connecticut, a easy 50 mile drive.  We were very pleased with the park.  It was very well kept, with large trees, spacious sites, a stream and two small lakes.  Once one braved the traffic to cross Highway 161, there were great walking opportunities on the hilly country roads.

East Lyme is located near such famous whaling and fishing villages as Mystic, Old Saybrook and Groton - not to mention Lyme, Old Lyme and South Lyme.  We were quite excited about exploring this beautiful and historic part of the country.  We visited Mystic a couple of times, did a scenic drive to Old Saybrook, and explored the Connecticut coastline.

We felt very fortunate that our friends Fran and Michael from Virginia were in the area for Michael's nephew's wedding.  They stopped to visit us for a couple of hours on Thursday on their way to Narragansett.  On Saturday we met up with them in the scenic village of Old Stonington for lunch on the water, followed by a little 'high-end' window-shopping.  The four of us then trekked to North Stonington for a wine festival, followed by a short walking tour and an adult beverage in Mystic.  We met a couple of days later for dinner in Mystic before bidding them adieu, knowing we would see them again in October.

There is so much to see and do in the New England area, but one can get exhausted and frustrated trying to do it all.  At this stage in our Cool Journey we try not to become frazzled tourists, but rather soak in the ambiance of our environment - another words, we are slowing down.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Constitution State, but on September 21st it was time to pull in our slides and raise our jacks and head north to Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts.
