Flagler Beach, FL - Nov. 22 - 30, 2009

We arrived at Gamble Rogers State Recreation Area just south of Flagler Beach on Sunday afternoon.  Our site was located behind a low palmetto-covered berm overlooking the beach.  Susan Fain, an annual park patron, recommended the park to us.  We had hoped we would be there at the same time as Susan, but, alas, the timing did not work out.  Gamble Rogers is a very popular campground so we could only stay for two nights before they booted us down the road.

On the 24th we moved seven miles north to Beverly Beach Camptown RV Resort for a week stay.  Our site was perched on a seawall overlooking the beach and sea, with nothing in front to block our magnificent view.  The resort itself isn't much more than a big, sandy parking lot with narrow sites.  But the view is fabulous.  It is absolutely wonderful to get up in the morning and look out the front window to spot dolphin leaping from a clear, blue sea.

We spent our time walking the beach and upscale neighborhoods north of Flagler, biking the paths, hanging out at some of the funky restaurants and bars at Flagler Beach, enjoying our fifth Thanksgiving on the road, and generally getting into Florida's laid-back beach rhythm.

As much as we enjoyed being on the beach, we were looking forward to moving on to Davenport, in central Florida, for a five-week stay.  Since leaving Santa Fe, New Mexico on May 1 the longest we had stayed anywhere was 10 days, so we were more than ready to stay parked for a while.  Plus, we had friends waiting for us in Davenport.  So on December 1 we stopped in a car/truck wash and scrubbed the salt off Kermit and the Beast, and headed southwest 110 miles to Deer Creek Resort.
