Park City, UT - Jan 31 - Feb 12, 2009

We hadn't skied since 2005 and decided we had best hit the slopes before we totally lose our skiing skills - such as they are.  Bill found a wonderful 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath condo just minutes from the Park City Ski Resort and our friend Claire accepted our invitation to join us for a few days of fun on the slopes.  So bright and early on January 31 we loaded up Kermit and drove north, stopping for the night in St. George, Utah.  We arrived in Salt Lake City in time to pick up our ski gear, and then head for the airport to pick of Claire before checking into our condo.

For Bill and I it was quite luxurious to have so much space, a dishwasher, washer and dryer, a fireplace, and three bathrooms; and for the first time in its short life, Kermit spent the nights in a garage.  Plus, the condo had a great location within walking distance of several restaurants and two supermarkets.  We were happy snow bunnies.

The next three days were devoted to skiing our legs off in beautiful sunshine, and evenings dining, wining and reviewing the events of the day.  On Thursday we strolled the historic streets of Park City, then head to Salt Lake City to return Claire's ski gear, tour Mormon Plaza and drop Claire at the airport.

Friday it snowed pretty hard so we just hung out at the condo enjoying its cozy warmth and working a jigsaw puzzle.  That evening we went to the very upscale Ghidotti's
to celebrate the Old Man's birthday.

The following day founds us back on the slopes.  The weirdly foggy slopes.  Yes, foggy.  It was the strangest ski conditions we had ever experienced.  You would be skiing along then Bam! Your in a fog bank and can't see a thing but could hear skiers all around you.  It was a bit disconcerting, if not frightening.  And it was snowing.  After a few heart-stopping incidences we decided to call it a day.  On Sunday it was still snowing but the fog had lifted and, with all the fresh snow, the conditions were wonderful.  It was a great ski day.

On Monday it was windy and snowing very hard so we decided to stay in and prepare to head home the next day.  There is something very romantic about watching the snowfall while reading in front of a toasty fire.  We were very contented.

Alas, on Tuesday it was time to head south to sunny Tucson.  It snowed all the way to St. George, which slowed our progress somewhat.  Then we hit the Las Vegas construction traffic jam, which slowed our progress a lot.  We spent the night at the Hacienda Hotel in Boulder City, and, after a stop to admire the bridge construction at Hoover Dam, arrived home on Wednesday afternoon.  Our mini-mansion on wheels was safe and sound, and all was well with our little world.
