Charleston, SC
Oak Plantation Campground was a nice place to stay for our visit to this area.
The large building is the beginning of the Old City Market that runs down this street.
The Old City Market is an open air market that is popular with visitors and locals alike.
A good thing to do while in Charleston is a carriage ride around the city.  This was ours.
Charleston has a long, rich history and many stately buildings.
Beautiful courtyards like this one are common.
Interesting architecture abounded.
Porches and balconies, perfect for Charleston's hot, humid climate, are everywhere.
Charleston boasts a church for nearly every major religion.  Quite a melting pot.
We loved the tree-lined streets.
Wow.
Old oak trees are everywhere and give this city a unique character.
Everybody gets their own mansion here.
Elegance, charm, unique architecture, this one has it all.
The decommissioned USS Yorktown keeps an eye on the harbor.
We were told that pineapples represent hospitality.  This is a very welcoming fountain.
Another interesting fountain.
The United States Custom House.
I bet that guy's glad he has a shield.
Even the bridges are interesting.  This is the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Magnolia Plantation bills itself as the best one in the area so we toured it.
The road into the plantation was tree-lined and very mossy.
That green stuff is duck weed and it covers much of the water on the plantation.
This egret is going to have green gunk up to its woo-who.
As the song says, "Wasted days and wasted nights..."
Now that is one relaxed gator.
While we thought much of the plantation was a bit tired looking, some sights like this were awesome.
Beautiful reflections on the water.
The Audubon Swamp walk was kind of a bust... not much wildlife... except Susan, of course.
We did arrive in time for the turtle race, but we didn't have time to wait to see who won.
The Swamp Boogie Band.  Rock out boys!
This is Charles Pinckney's Snee Farm. He was contributed greatly to writing the Constitution.
A massive oak tree at Pinckney's Snee Farm house.
