Grand Marais, MN to Ottawa, Canada
To raise cancer awareness, at age 22 and cancer ravaged, Terry Fox, ran 3,339 miles across Canada.
We visited the well known and eclectic "Bay and Algoma" district while in the area.
This is a Mt. McKay memorial to the Ojibwa Indians who fought in wars.
This is a view looking east towards Thunder Bay and Lake Superior from Mt. McKay.
The Kaministiquia River downstream from Kakabeka Falls. Go ahead and say those names 5 times fast.
The top of Kakabeka Falls.
Looking up towards the falls and the bridge that crosses upstream.
Bill at a lookout near the falls.
The Wawa RV Resort. Resort? Yeah right. Narrow sites and one byte per day Internet service.
"Wawa" was probably supposed to be "Wewe", for snow goose. A bad translation that stuck.
The Ojibwa people called Lake Superior "gitchigumi". Hence the name on this art is Gitchee Goomee.
The very impressive waterfall known as High Falls on the Magpie River near Wawa.
On this Lake Superior near Wawa we observed some surfers.
There were lots of ups and downs along the hike and this was an up.
Just another pretty view of the shoreline.
That's it Susan. Look up so we can see your face... perfect!
There is a narrow little walkway to see the Agawa pictographs. One slip and you end up in the lake.
This pictograph is of a canoe, fictional beast and snakes.
Another canoe and caribou too. Ooooh, that rhymes.
Bill ventured out along this slippery slope to get the pictures. Fortunately, he didn't go swimming.
Home while near Ottawa at Recreationland RV Resort. Nice place, but a little out of town.
A panorama view of Parliament Hill and the buildings.
This is the main Parliament building. The changing of the guard happens on the lawn in front.
Hey, I thought these guys weren't supposed to move. Put that arm back down.
The changing of the guard is full of marching, deft gun handling and rousing music.
Inside, the Parliament Bldg. is impressive.
Some governing goes on here. Looks kind of like they face off. The gallery is safely elevated.
More governing and gallery watching goes on here.
Meanwhile, back at the top of the tower visitors get great views of Ottawa.
Another view from the tower.
Here is the U.S. Embassy.
It was a beautiful day and we couldn't resist taking lots of pictures like this.
These are the locks on the Rideau Canal near Parliament Hill.
Ottawa has many nice buildings. We thought this one was cool looking.
The black widow with the church in the background. No special meaning here folks, just move along.
This sculpture commemorates women rising to the status of 'person'.
We biked this popular pathway along the canal.
More interesting views of Ottawa.
Peaceful river view near the city.
This is a small portion of the Byward Market. Lots of fresh produce and goodies to buy here.
Obama apparently is popular in Canada too.
Another day in the area found us hiking along a pretty trail across the river in Quebec.
The trail took us to nice views of the area around Ottawa.
So Bill, what did you think of that hike? Come on old man its only half over. ...
