Homebound - Sep. 29 - Oct. 12, 2010

On September 29th we left Lebanon, Oregon bound for Eugene to have the rear shocks replaced on the Beast.  By the time we did a bit of exploring and had lunch, the rig was ready to go.

We were starting to feel the pull of our non-mobile Arizona home so we headed south not knowing exactly where we would spend the night.  We checked the weather in the Redding and Sacramento - well into the 100's - and promptly decided to stay north of the Siskiyou Mountains.  We opted to hang out in at Umpqua Golf and RV Park in Sutherlin for a week.  After a couple of days it started raining and didn't look like it would clear anytime soon.  But we did get in a couple of rounds of golf - Bill played, I drove.

On the 7th we continued south stopping at the wonderful Elk's Lodge in Redding.  The Lodge is located right on the Sacramento River Bike Trail, just upstream of Turtle Bay Exploration Park and Sundial Bridge.  Susan immediately put on her walking shoes and took off down the path.  This Elks Lodge is worth a couple of day stay, at least.

But we were on a mission, so the next day we were off to the Cal Expo Park Lot, aka RV Park, in Sacramento for three nights.  On the way south we left the Beast at the Maxwell Reststop and ran up to Kelseyville for a brief visit with Bill's Mom before retrieving are home and moving on down to Sacramento.  We did a whirlwind visit with family, picked up belongings at Claire's, touched base with Sheri and Allen, and then hit the road south.

We spent a night at the less than wonderful Elk's Lodge in Bakersfield, then continued south.  We decided to drive straight through to Florence and arrived home that evening.  Our first impression was:  Oh my, 9-foot ceilings are really high.  Second impression:  Hey, I thought things were supposed to grow slowly in the desert.  Dang, those plants are big.
